This project involved conceptualizing a book concept for artist Simone Leigh, developing it and completing the print process before making adapted web and animated versions!
I started this process by conducting extensive research into the artists career to begin developing initial concepts and ideas. After some refining, mood boards are developed and presented to the client for approval. In this instance, we decided on my gallery theme, in which we center the artists work visually and use the setting most view her work in: galleries as inspiration for the background and layouting. After reviewing our initial visuals, we figured the off-white table as a background conveyed the gallery feeling, and that a thick sans-serif on the spine would balance out the white space, but a serif font for titles to convey the high-art style of the subject: Simone Leigh.
Having completed the project, hard and soft cover printing processes, web and animated adaptations, I even more confidant in my ability to create both strong visual styles and layouts, as well as effectively and knowledgeably go through the printing process, all of which are invaluable skills. I also feel very driven to create more books, booklets, pamphlets and other print products!
